Who we are

In January 2013, the University of Coimbra Institute for Legal Research (UCILeR) has been re-established as a Unit of R&D under the new Statutes of the Faculty of Law. The link between higher education and research – a centenary tradition, which was never really interrupted –was thus given a new institutional framework. In tune with the concerns of our times, UCILeR is specifically dedicated to developing interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research, organised in thematic lines and research groups, by fostering applied research and establishing partnerships with world-renowned research centres.
Fully aware of our School's contribution for the creation and dissemination of legal knowledge in the last few centuries, it is our purpose to follow along that same path and, amidst the new circumstances of contemporaneity, to direct research toward the new challenges that the University must address. The past we are proud of is thus an additional motive to meet the highest standards of excellence in our future activity.
This site provides information on our research team, our activities and our publications. They are, in fact, the tangible testimony of the ongoing dialogue with the scholarly community to which we belong.
